KALMA CAMP / MURNEI CAMP (25 May.) - Three women of the Kalma camp for the displaced in South Darfur were gang-raped on Friday. On Saturday, gunmen raped a Murnei camp resident in West Darfur.
Three women (aged 25, 28, and 35) on Friday went to Wadi Baba, 1.5km north of Kalma camp, to collect firewood on Friday morning, Saleh Eisa, secretary-general of the camp told Radio Dabanga.
“Six government-backed gunmen on camels, and wearing military uniforms, attacked them at Wadi Baba. They beat them with their whips before they raped them alternately for two hours.”
The three victims were stripped of their clothes, shoes, their axes and their ropes. Eisa said that they returned to the camp themselves, “utterly exhausted”. He noted that the incident was reported to the police and the Unamid team site.
Murnei
In West Darfur, a militiaman raped a woman from the Murnei camp for the displaced on Saturday morning. A relative of the victim reported Radio Dabanga from the camp that the woman went to tend her farmland in the area of Mingar on Saturday morning. “At about 10am a gunman on camel back approached her and raped her at gun point.”
The victim had to be transferred to the Murnei hospital for treatment. Eisa added that a complaint was filed at the nearest police post.
