Qatar Charity Inaugurates Construction and Development Projects in Darfur

  • Central Darfur Governor: via its Charity organizations, Qatar has played a significant part in achieving peace, and providing humanitarian needs for the people of Darfur.

  • QC projects implemented in Darfur included the establishment of a handicapped rehabilitation center, clubs, a farmer’s market, and providing vehicles, carts, and water pumps.

Funded by Qatar Fund for Development, and at the presence of Central Darfur Governor, Jaafar Abdel-Hakam, QC inaugurated income ­generating construction and development projects in Ronqatas in Central Darfur at a cost of 3.6 million QR.

QC projects implemented in Darfur included the establishment of a handicapped rehabilitation center, clubs, a farmer’s market, and solar­powered plants. This is in addition to maintaining water pumps, conducting awareness­raising sessions, and first aid courses. Both Sudanise official and locals confirmed that such project will have a good impact on development in Darfur.

Peace making

During the ceremony held to mark the occasion, Central Darfur Governor, Mr. Jaafar Abdel­-Hakam, appreciated the effort made by QC in making peace and achieving development in Darfur, reaffirming the long-­standing and robust relations between Qatar and Sudan at both official and non-­governmental levels.

The state of Qatar, via its charities, plays a major role in achieving peace and social harmodisny, and providing humanitarian needs for the people of Darfur, Jaafar Abdel-­Hakam added.

Honoring

A token of honor was awarded to QC for its effort in implementing development and humanitarian project that alleviated the burden of suffering for the people of Darfur.

A helping Hand

For his part, Mr. Hasab Nabi, the Commissioner of Wadi Azoum said that QC projects have contributed to the development of the region economically, administratively and culturally. We thank the state of Qatar and QC for their help that contributed to the achievement of voluntary repatriation of the displaced people.

Achievements

Mr. Ismail Adam Mahjoub, The Commissioner Humanitarian Aid, hailed the efforts made by QC, stressing that QC has accomplished significant achievements, and implemented development and humanitarian projects in Darfur that have assisted in the voluntary return of the families.

QC projects beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to QC for its effort made in achieving development in the region, appreciating the effort made by Qatari philanthropists.

Income-Generating Projects

Omar Abdulaziz, QC representative, said that under Darfur development initiative that aims at promoting peace and achieving social harmony, QC has implemented income­-generating project in Ronqatas including the distribution of 20 carts, benefiting 240 individuals, 9 auto rickshaws which will provide 90 job approtunities, and 10 water pumps benefiting 1200 individuals.

Construction Projects

Omar Abdulaziz made it clear that QC has established a number of construction projects that serve thousands of people. The projects included a handicapped rehabilitation center, a community reconciliation department, fruit and vegetable market, two solar­powered plants, clubs, in addition to maintaining manual water pump. The projects aimed at raising the level of development and increasing the productivity of households.

Capacity Building

Out of its desire to promote development and build the capacities of Darfur people, QC has conducted first aid courses, facilitated two awareness­ raising conveys, provided sports courses, and capacity­building courses. The total cost of the projects reached QR3,650,000 funded by Qatar Fund for Development.

Past Efforts

It is worth mentioning that QC implemented a number of projects in Bulbul Tmbisku including economic empowerment projects, social cohesion projects, social housing projects, benefiting 50000 individuals. The projects included the establishment of 2 primary schools, 2 secondary schools, a health center, a police station, 15 houses, a water plant, sport stadiums and the total cost of such projects was QR18,724,500.
