Insecurity Insight identified at least 896 incidents that took place at IDP/refugee camps in 19 countries and one territory between January and April 2025. Camps came under attack through raids and bombings, with residents arrested, injured, killed, or subjected to sexual violence. Most incidents were reported from the occupied Palestinian territory.

High incident numbers were also documented in Sudan, where attacks increased in April, particularly targeting Abu Shouk and Zamzam camps in North Darfur — two of the country’s largest displacement sites. The RSF carried out ground and air assaults on these camps and the nearby town of Al-Fasher, killing residents, including children, as well as at least 12 aid workers. Similar patterns were observed in Myanmar, where the Myanmar military junta bombed IDP camps, particularly in Sagaing and Kayah states.

Since 2023, violence at IDP/refugee camps has escalated, driven by a sharp rise in drone- and plane-delivered explosive weapon use.
