OIC Secretary General calls on all Darfurian parties to join the Doha negotiations and to show genuine political will to resolve the Darfur crisis peacefully

The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, lauded in a statement addressed to the meeting of the Arab-African Ministerial Committee on Darfur held in Doha on 6th January 2011 the important efforts deployed by the State of Qatar under the high patronage of the Emir of the State of Qatar, H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, in a bid to work out a peaceful, comprehensive and sustainable solution to the Darfur conflict, which would help achieve peace and security for the Darfurian people, within the framework of Sudan's unity and sovereignty.

The Secretary General called, in the statement delivered on his behalf by Ambassador Habib Kaabachi, on all parties to join the Doha peace negotiations and to demonstrate genuine political will to peacefully resolve the Darfur crisis. He emphasized that the time has come to intensify efforts in order to put an end to the suffering of the people of Darfur, and to restore peace, security and stability in Darfur.

Professor Ihsanoglu reiterated the OIC's readiness to implement a string of reconstruction and rehabilitation projects in Darfur with the amount of US$800 million pledged during the Conference on the Reconstruction and Development in Darfur, which was held in March 2010 in Cairo, Republic of Egypt.
