BACKGROUND

North Darfur State occupies more than half of the Darfur territory. It has borders with Northern, North Kordofan, West Kordofan, East Darfur, South Darfur, Central Darfur, and West Darfur states and shares international borders with Chad and Libya. Its state capital is El Fasher town. The main tribes in the state are the Beni Hussein, Berti, Fur, Gimir, Tama, Zaghawa, and Zayadia. Zamzam internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in El Fasher locality is the second largest IDP camp in Darfur, hosting about 120,000, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Other IDP camps are located in El Fasher, Tawilla, Kebkabiya, Kutum, Dar As Salam, Melit, As Sereif and Saraf Omra localities.

There are 18 camps, 12 neighbourhoods and 32 villages in the state hosting displaced people, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mobility Tracking Round Five.

27.9% GAM (Global Acute Malnutrition) prevalence among children U5 (National: 16.3%)

343,415 number of children U5 suffering from GAM (National: 3.1 million)

543,959 number of people projected at IPC phase 3 & 4 (Oct 2022 - Feb 2023) (National: 7.7 million)

50.6% percentage of people with access to improved drinking water (National: 68%)
