Khartoum, April 18 (SUNA) - The meeting of the ministerial council of the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources, chaired by the Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Eng. Kamal Ali Mohammed, Monday reviewed the features of the five-year plan and the performance of the Ministry in the period of 2007 -2011 besides the general features of the plan for the five years to come (2012 -2016) for the aspects of institutional building, research, sustainable development, poverty, informationalism and realization of the millennium goals

The Ministerial Council further reviewed the performance in the irrigation projects being implemented in the current year, including Kassab Project, Halfa Al-Gadida Project, Khour Abu Habil, Soba Project, extending electricity to White Nile and Blue Nile projects, consultancy work, rehabilitation of Al-Rahad Project from OPEC's loan and White Nile Sugar Project

In this regard, the meeting explained that the Ministry met all the irrigation needs of all the projects in the winter season of Gezira and Managil Project by 28% besides the irrigation requirements of Al-Rahad, Al-Soki, Nahral-Nil, Northern State, White Nile and Sinnar Projects

The Meeting further touched on the progress of work in Nyala Water Project, Sinja Water Project, Port Sudan Water Project, Atbara and El-Damar Water Project besides digging some 800 sub-terrain wells in all the State by a Chinese loan as well as implementing water projects in Darfur States, funded by Islamic Development Bank, and the projects of Darfur Strategy for peace from within

The ministerial council further called on the Ministry of Finance and National Economy to accelerate payments for the Irrigations and Excavations Authority
