Armed militias looted the market of a Central darfur camp on Monday and took with them at least 50 million Sudanese pounds worth of commodities ($11.3mi). A camp's coordinator said the insurgents “are well-known” to authorities and security services.
Four gunmen raided the Khamsa Degaig camp in Zalingei and also stole donkeys, cash and 100 loafs of bread after beating a baker, sources told Radio Dabanga.
The camp’s coordinator said militants fired shots in the air during the assault and the displaced fled in panic.
Khamsa Degaig’s residents demanded that UNAMID either defend them or "declare its failure".
