One person was killed and another six were injured when pro-government militias opened fire on a bus in South Darfur on Thursday morning.

Four gunmen on horsebacks attacked the bus in Hujair, between Abu Hamra and Amarjadeed. The vehicle was traveling from El Fasher to Nyala.

Maryam Mohamed Osman died on the spot and the bus driver, Jamal Osman along with the other five injured, was taken to a hospital in Manawashi, fellow passengers told Radio Dabanga.

The gunmen reportedly took the travelers' money, mobile phones and luggage.

Sources are complaining about the worsening security situation in the area and the frequent looting on the road between El Fasher and Nyala.
