KASS (2 May.) -
The people living in the camps for the internally displaced in Kass locality, South Darfur, have accused the local authorities of forcing them to leave their camps at gunpoint.
Witnesses said that the locality had paid sums of money to some armed groups, “with the aim of dismantling the camps by force under the pretext of fight against alcohol and crime”.
Accordingly, the witnesses claimed that the armed groups have destroyed 510 houses, built of local materials and tents. They said that the “campaign of forced displacement”, initiated by the local authorities, made more than 10,000 displaced people from El Batari camp in Um Dukhun locality, among others, homeless.
