Kids for Kids Delivers Lifesaving Humanitarian Aid to Remote Villages in Darfur Despite Ongoing Crisis

As Sudan continues to grapple with escalating violence and humanitarian catastrophe, Kids for Kids remains a beacon of hope, successfully delivering lifesaving aid to children in remote villages across Darfur. While Khartoum has seen only one aid convoy since the outbreak of the conflict, Kids for Kids has navigated immense logistical and security challenges to ensure critical aid reaches the most vulnerable.

The conflict has pushed millions of Sudanese families into "world's worst hunger crisis", (The UN General Assembly, September 2024) with children facing the brunt of food shortages, lack of clean water, and medical supplies. In remote villages where larger aid organisations struggle to operate, Kids for Kids' established network of local volunteers has proven invaluable.

Patricia Parker OBE, founder and CEO of Kids for Kids said: “The arrival of one convoy of humanitarian aid to Khartoum - the capital city of a country of over 50 million people – making headlines should shame us all. Those Sudanese who are still in Khartoum and other towns and villages across the country are starving. There should be endless streams of aid arriving.

“Kids for Kids is not waiting for convoys that never come. Our volunteers are getting food to children right now. Our Kids Kitchen Kits - lentils, pulses, powdered meat, ground nuts - provide essential nutrition and protein. They are saving lives. A further 6446 children aged 5 and under received our Kits just before Christmas.”

Kids for Kids is calling on the world’s leaders to stop this terrible war, protect civilians from racial hatred and feed children today.

"Whilst families wait for the UN and international community to act, more and more children are dying,” Parker stressed. “Kids for Kids is showing how to help right now.”

  • Kids for Kids’ Kids Kitchen Kit includes lentils, onions, ground nuts, oil, sugar, or equivalent depending on what is available at local markets, to families with children who are 5 and under living in our 110 villages located in North Darfur.
  • Inflation is volatile and increasing on a daily basis which means project planning is challenging
  • Banks across the whole of Sudan remain closed. Traders at local markets are using the Bank of Khartoum app – Bankak – to receive payments.
  • Kids for Kids Steering Committee – all local volunteers – are coordinating efforts in conjunction with local village leaders to distribute seeds and the Kids Kitchen Kits to families.

About Kids for Kids

Kids for Kids transforms the lives of children living in abject poverty in Darfur, Sudan. The charity adopts villages, introducing an integrated package of grassroots sustainable projects identified, and run, by the villagers themselves, lifting them out of poverty long-term.

Our key project is our Goat Loan. We lend the poorest families 5 goats so that children have milk. Today this is their only source of protein. After 2 years, as the little flock grows, 5 nanny goats are passed on to another family – and in turn they pass on 5 offspring. We lend donkeys to carry heavy loads, and chickens to the elderly for eggs, we provide mosquito nets and blankets, farm tools and much more.

We train midwives & first aiders to save lives. We install hand pumps for clean, accessible water. We build kindergartens & health centres. And we plant trees to slow the spread of the desert, provide shade from the strong desert sun and by-products that can be used, eaten, or sold by the communities. To date there are 110 Kids for Kids villages in Darfur.
