Background and Situation Overview
After the emergency meeting that was held at the headquarters of the Humanitarian Aid Commission in El Obeid and in the participation of North Kordofan Emergency Task Force members, with the purpose of consulting on the preliminary information about the occurrence of floods in the locality of Soudari. The main objective of the joint mission is to ascertain the reality of the situation on the ground, and then obtain preliminary information in order to determine the extent of the damage and the form of the expected intervention. The team consisted of mentioned agencies Plan International, UNHCR, UNWFP, Save the Children International, IRW, SRCS, CAFA, MoH, HAC as well as AORD.
Through observation, it is clear that Soudari is geographically not a flat area, but a land in which depressions and slopes and most of the locality are within the scope of seasonal torrential currents (valleys and creeks); after careful consideration, it was found that most of the houses are built of mud and sometimes straw, and what distinguishes it as fragile and dilapidated to a large extent, and some houses without fixed roofs, which exacerbated the extent of the damage. The team began its work on the ground by holding a meeting with the executive director of the locality and the relevant authorities for further explanation, clarification and understanding of the nature of the situation now, on Wednesday, August 11th, 2021.
