Port Sudan, Sudan | February 2025
On Friday, February 14, two humanitarian aid workers were killed in attacks on Zamzam camp in North Darfur State, raising the total number of lost humanitarian aid workers in Sudan since the beginning of 2025 to three staff.
Members of the INGO Forum in Sudan extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased in this tragic moment. We stand with you in solidarity and support.
Sadly, this is not an isolated incident. 2024 marked the deadliest year for humanitarian aid workers in history with the loss of 478 dedicated staff in the line of duty, 54 of them in Sudan. Seven weeks into 2025, Sudan has witnessed unconscionable violence as the conflict rages into its second year.
This is appalling and unacceptable. The protection of civilians and aid workers is guaranteed by International Humanitarian Law. We call on the parties to the conflict to uphold these commitments and to end the cycle of impunity that has led to hundreds of aid worker deaths and thousands of deaths and grave violations across Sudan.
The INGO Forum reiterates its call for all actors to STOP targeting humanitarian workers and assets
