Fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since 15th April has caused at least 705 people to have been killed and 5,287 injured, according to the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH), as of 16 May. Massive displacement both internally as well to surrounding countries, as well as risks for those who are unable to flee the violence.

With 45 attacks on health verified and around 70% of health facilities in the capital Khartoum reported as non-functional, health services across the country have been heavily impacted with several critical programs discontinued and disruption of supply chain, and poor access by the population to facilities that can provide life saving services.

Due to the current crisis and soaring needs, the 2023 Sudan Humanitarian Response Plan has been revised with the aim to give urgent assistance to those affected by the fighting. 18.1 million people are now in need of humanitarian assistance, for which $2.56 billion, is needed, an increase of $800 million from just a few months ago. The health cluster needs $178.6 million to reach 7.6 million out of the 11 million in need of life saving humanitarian health services.
