CONTEXT

Between 18 December 2024 and 28 May 2025, DTM field teams reported an estimated 1,189,893 returnees across 20 localities, in three states: Aj Jazirah (80%), Sennar (15%), and Khartoum (5%).

Within Aj Jazirah, returnees were recorded across six localities: Sharg Al Jazirah (41%), Um Algura (33%), Janub Al Jazirah (12%), Al Hasahisa (6%), Medani Al Kubra (6%), and Al Manaqil (2%). Returnees in Aj Jazirah reportedly moved back from other locations across Aj Jazirah (14%), as well as from locations in Gedearef (41%), Kassala (14%), Sennar (10%), River Nile (10%), White Nile (6%), Northern (3%), and Blue Nile (2%).

Within Sennar, returnees were recorded across seven localities: As Suki (40%), Sinja (18%), Ad Diner (15%), Sennar (10%), Ad Dali (8%), Abu Hujar (7%), and Sharg Sennar (2%). Returnees recorded in Sennar reportedly moved back from other locations within Sennar (2%), as well as from locations across Kassala (38%), Gedaref (31%), Khartoum (12%), White Nile (6%), River Nile (6%), Red Sea (3%), Northern (1%), Blue Nile (<1%), Central Darfur (<1%), and Aj Jazirah (<1%).

Within Khartoum, returnees were recorded across six localities: Bahri (46%), Sharg An Neel (21%), Um Durman (10%), Khartoum (8%), Um Bada (7%), Jebel Awlia (4%), and Karrari (4%). Returnees recorded across Khartoum reportedly moved back from other locations within Khartoum (27%), as well as from locations across River Nile (30%), Northern (9%), Red Sea (8%), Kassala (6%), Gedaref (5%), Aj Jazirah (4%), White Nile (4%), Blue Nile (1%), North Kordofan (<1%), and Sennar (<1%). An estimated 4 per cent reportedly returned to Khartoum from outside of Sudan.
