Between 18 December 2024 and 29 April 2025, DTM field teams recordeed approximately 628,554 returnees across Aj Jazirah (75%), Sennar (20%), and Khartoum (5%).

  • Returnees in Aj Jazirah reportedly moved back from other locations within Aj Jazirah (14%), as well as locations across Gedaref (41%), Kassala (14%), Sennar (10%), River Nile (10%), White Nile (6%), Northern (3%), and Blue Nile (2%).
  • Within Aj Jazirah, returnees were recorded in Sharg Aj Jazirah (49%) and Um Algura (30%) localities, in addition to Medani Al Kubra (9%), Al Hasahisa (5%), Janub Al Jazirah (4%), and Al Manaqil (3%) localities.
  • Returnees recorded in Sennar reportedly moved back from locations in Gedaref (50%), Kassala (17%), Blue Nile (16%), Red Sea (7%), White Nile (5%), River Nile (2%), Northern (2%), and Aj Jazirah (<1%), as well as other locations across Sennar (1%).
  • Within Sennar, returnees were recorded in As Suki (52%), Sennar (13%), Sinja (12%), Abu Hujar (9%), Ad Dali (5%), Ad Dinder (5%), and Sharg Sennar (4%).
  • Returnees recorded in Khartoum reportedly moved back from other locations across Khartoum (23%), as well as locations in River Nile (34%), Northern (14%), Red Sea (11%), Kassala (5%), Gedaref (5%), Aj Jazirah (3%), Blue Nile (2%), White Nile (2%), and Sennar (1%).
  • Within Khartoum, returnees were recorded in Bahri (51%), Sharg An Neel (40%), Um Durman (4%), Karrari (3%), Khartoum (1%) and Um Bada (1%) localities.

Note: DTM Sudan defines a returnee as someone who was previously displaced from their habitual residence in Sudan due to an event dating from 2003 onwards, who has now voluntarily returned to their location of habitual residence, irrespective of whether they have returned to their formal residence or to another shelter type. Some IDPs who returned from locations of displacement may not have returned to their specific locations of origin and may remain displaced within their locality or state of origin.
