DTM Sudan Flash Alert: Heavy Rains and Flooding in Port Sudan (Port Sudan City), Red Sea (Update One) 04 August 2024

On 31 July and 1 August 2024, heavy rain and flooding displaced an estimated 280 households across Port Sudan city of Port Sudan locality, Red Sea. Field teams reported that rain primarily affected schools and gathering sites for IDPs. The flooding reportedly destroyed 227 tents, 40 houses, and partially damaged 32 buildings, including commercial buildings. There were also reports of deaths and injuries among civilians. Field teams reported that the displaced households sought shelter with host communities within the same locality.
