The conflict in Sudan has led to a severe breakdown of essential services in the worst-hit areas, including the closure of vital infrastructure like markets, hospitals, and schools, and widespread disruptions to water, power, banking, and communications. The resulting crisis has had a devastating impact on all Sudanese, with particularly severe consequences for vulnerable populations such as female-headed households and those with chronic illnesses. The Rapid Gender Analysis on Power and Participation (RGA-P) was undertaken in Beryai and Tarawa, Kassala City in Kassala State. This was undertaken as part of the Women Lead in Emergencies (WLiE) component of the project “Emergency CASH Assistance for Vulnerable Woman headed Household in Kassala – Sudan”. The project is funded by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit [GIZ] to support the refugees, Internally Displaced Populations (IDPs), and host community, especially female headed households to access food and other basic needs through Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) and strengthen their meaningful participation in their communities.
This RGA-P captures a snapshot of how women experience participation and decision-making in communities. It relies on both primary data collected in Kassala City and secondary data review.
