On April 15, 2023, Sudan was plunged into civil war, setting off a nationwide crisis that has left a trail of devastation—countless lives lost, unprecedented displacement, widespread hunger, and the collapse of essential systems.
Amidst the turmoil, Alight remained. While others withdrew, we adapted—maintaining critical programs in the first year and scaling up in the second. By March 2025, our reach had surpassed pre-war levels by 14%.
As we mark the second anniversary of the conflict and Sudan prepares to enter its third year of war, challenges will only grow. This report reflects not only the scale of this crisis but also the extraordinary resilience of the Sudanese people, our staff, and our partners. We honour their strength and perseverance and remain committed to walking alongside them now and in the future, no matter what it may bring.
