On 7 August 2023, Join Inter Agency Assessment with the Cluster lead agencies including UNHCR, WHO, UNFPA, UNICEF and WFP, and the NGOs respective partners (NRS-ADRA-S-PLAN-, CAFOD, ASSISST) conducted one day assessment for the affected 1016 HHs affected by the floods in Aljabalin town.
The general observation from the assessment, the rain falls at Al jablain area caused serious damaged in the three areas visited west Subaha, Alhila Elgadida Al Salakhana Including refuges population, given that the housing and living condition for local population were very poor and majority of them were constructed by mud at water running passes.
Due to heavy rain falls and flood the main road to Aljabalain is closed. All vehicles are using alternative road to access the town. as observed during the mission, the running water and the flood destroyed all the houses and the latrines especially under the water running passes. It was reported by the locality authority 3 children were died due to heavy rain falls and flood.
Main finding from the assessment
• The total affected population is 1023 HHs. Out of total there 728 HHs their shelter destroyed while 265 HH shelter were partially affected.
• There were 81 latrines completely damaged, while 40 were partial affected and full and subject to be destroyed at any time.
• There were 300 plastics sheets distributed by the locality to the affected population.
Recommendation
• Given that SRCS assessed 500 in dire needed, UNHCR is recommending the distribution of shelter and NFIs to the population in need including the refugees.
• To avoid duplication in the services provision, all partners recommending Coordinating all the efforts with humanitarian actors with the locality and the SRCS on the ground
• As we are in the middle of the rainy season, to avoid any similar situation, UNHCR is advising the population living in the water running areas to leave their house immediately.
