Situation update

• The highest number of displaced people are reported in Nuwara Eliya, Kegalle, Badulla and Kandy.

• The Government of Sri Lanka has initiated the development of a Recovery Plan and a PostDisaster Needs Assessment (PDNA). The PDNA will be led by the Government, with support from UN agencies and development partners. WFP and FAO will co-lead the food security and agriculture sector in assessing the post-disaster needs with economic estimations.

• While the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) based headline inflation remained unchanged at 2.1 percent in December (year-on-year), a closer look at the month-on-month values reflected an increase of 1.26 percent. The food category contributed largely to the increase, as a result of the supply disruptions caused by Cyclone Ditwah.

• An Extraordinary Gazette was issued, establishing a 25-member Presidential Task Force under the “Rebuilding Sri Lanka” initiative. This Task Force aims to coordinate post-disaster rehabilitation, recovery, and reconstruction efforts following the severe impact of Cyclone Ditwah.
