Sri Lanka: World Bank aid for IDP welfare

The World Bank will provide a further Rs.1.4 billion for community livelihood projects for the internally displaced persons, official sources disclosed.

These funds will be utilised to benefit the internally displaced persons in the early conflict affected areas.

In addition, these funds will help the people in restoring farms and support irrigation rehabilitation work.

This project is an addition to many other schemes already launched under foreign funds in the North under the Uthuru Wasanthaya programme.

Several countries have expressed desire to further help rehabilitate the once war torn Northern Province.
