- After the passage of the tropical storm DITWAH and its remnants across Sri Lanka over 27-29 November that caused very heavy rainfall, floods and landslides, the death toll continues to increase. The worst affected districts are Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla and Kurunegala.
- The Disaster Management Center (DMC) reports, as of 15 December, 643 fatalities. The DMC also reports 183 still missing people, approximately 70,050 evacuated people across 762 active safety centres and a total of around 1.62 million currently affected people.
- The scale of devastation in Sri Lanka continues to generate extensive humanitarian needs, particularly among displaced populations in safety centres and affected communities. Priority needs span multiple sectors, including WASH, health, shelter and NFIs, protection, education, livelihoods, and early recovery. DG ECHO Humanitarian project officer is in country coordinating EU Humanitarian response.
- Following Sri Lanka's request for assistance through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM), Germany, France, Luxembourg have offered in kind assistance including shelter items and Italy offered technical expertise. The Copernicus Emergency Management Service (EMS) was activated in rapid mapping mode (EMSR851), so far, 30 maps have been produced.
- Over the next 96 hours, moderate rainfall is forecast over most of the country.
