Heavy rains and thunderstorms over the past two days have affected over 6,500 people across 14 of the total 25 districts.
The Disaster Management Centre estimates that 1,214 families (6,631 individuals) have been affected, including 9 people injured and 32 families (141 individuals) displaced to safer locations. 1,145 houses are reported damaged due to high winds, heavy rains, and lightning.
An advisory has been issued for the local public to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
The Sri Lankan Meteorological Department forecasts the continuation of the thundershowers across the country over the next 24 hours. A landslide warning has been issued for hilly areas in Nuwara Eliya and Kurunegala.
