Since 13 January, heavy rainfall and strong winds have continued to affect northern and eastern Sri Lanka, causing floods, flash floods and severe weather-related incidents that have resulted in casualties and damage.
The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) reports, as of 24 January, two fatalities, of whom one in Uva and one in North Central province, three injured people in Jaffna district of Northern province, 820 displaced people across 13 evacuation centres, and 92,382 affected people across Sri Lanka, including 56,878 in Eastern province, 29,299 in Northern province, and 4,599 in North Central province.
Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall and strong winds are forecast over Uva, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces.
