Disaster Management and Human Rights Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe notes that the main target of the government is to resettle the displaced people in relief villages in their own villages at the earliest
He said that President Rajapaksa was keen to achieve that objective and make it a reality soon.
Minister Samarasinghe disclosed that an integrated programme is in place to face flood threats and other natural emergencies.
He pointed out that the health facilities in the welfare villages were at a satisfactory level.
He further said that 112 centres have been set up as play areas for the children in those villages. He made these observations during a special debate in parliament yesterday.
Removal of landmines has become a major problem before resettling people in the welfare villages. Minister Rishard Badeudeen said that they would be resettled in their own villages as soon as the landmines were removed.
