More than 50 percent of the displaced in welfare villages have been resettled in their places of origin.
Minister of Human Rights and Disaster Management, Mahinda Samarasinghe made this disclosure at a media briefing at the Media Centre for National Security yesterday.
The Minister pointed out that Internal Displaced in the Welfare Village in Vavuniya at the moment number 87,241. The total which is out of the village since 1st December is 21,332. The total to be resettled and who are in the Village is 87,241.Accordingly, the total number to be resettled is 108, 573.
The Minister told the media that 1,002 were resettled day before yesterday. The number who returned to their villages in Kilinochchi is 13,016, in Jaffna 59,830, Batticaloa 2,514, Trincomalee 6,700, Mannar 10,069, Vavuniya 23,979, Ampara 591 and Muttur 10,640.
The Minister added that up to yesterday 127, 352 have been resettled. It is almost 50 percent.
