This report is produced by the OCHA Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) on behalf of the Sri Lanka InterSector Coordination Group (ISCG). The updates below cover activities carried out between 17 December 2022 and 17 January 2023 and provide an overview of response activities to meet the needs articulated in the Humanitarian Needs and Priorities (HNP) Plan and its subsequent revision.

HIGHLIGHTS

• The Humanitarian Needs and Priorities Plan (HNP) ended on 31 December 2022. A transition period will continue until 31 March 2023 during which humanitarian interventions will be implemented and reported under the HNP mechanisms.

• As of 12 January 2023, 2.4 million people have received assistance through the HNP.

• US$100.9 million of the requested $149.7 million has been contributed by donors towards the HNP (67.4 per cent funded).

• The year-on-year inflation for December according to the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) stood at 57.2 per cent, down from 61 per cent in November.• 37 per cent of households faced acute food insecurity in November 2022, according to WFP, and food inflation (year-onyear) in urban areas of Colombo district remained high in December at 64.4 per cent, according to the CCPI.

• As of 2 January 2023, some 1 million children had received school meals prepared with rice supported by WFP.

• COVID-19 incidence remains low, and the spread of dengue fever has fallen by 9 per cent to 1,698 new cases in the week ending 1 January 2023.

• On 18 December, 105 Rohingya refugees who were on their way from Myanmar to Indonesia were rescued by the Sri Lankan navy after their boat became adrift off the northern coast of Sri Lanka. The refugees, ages 1 to 70, received initial support, among others, from UNHCR and UNFPA, and IFRC has issued an application for support through its Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF).
