The government has reduced the curfew from 22 hours to 14.5 hours as of 30 August. The curfew is lifted at different times in different regions (Jaffna, Valihamam, Vadamaradchi, Themaradchi and Island) making movement difficult between regions.
Water & Sanitation
Temporary Accommodation Centers' (TACs) water and sanitation needs have been looked after by UNOPS, UNICEF and World Vision with the coordination of GoSL departments such as the water board, municipal council and Pradeshiya Shaba.
Essential food prices have gone up at the local markets. While at the MPCs prices stay at the original rates.
At present no food is available in the WFP store. 1500 MT food items brought by ship are being distributed through MPCS.
UNHCR, CARE, World Vision, UNICEF and LEADS are handling NFRI distribution.
Almost all the TACs are schools, churches and temples where most of the IDPs get shelter while others live with their friends and relatives. As schools have started to function in Jaffna town and Valihamam, the school management want the IDPs to vacate the areas. Temporary shelter needs have not been planned yet.
18 requests have been received for UXO disposal. 17 requests are from the current conflict area and one from an IDP camp. The one request received from the IDP camp has been attended to by UNDP Mine Action Team.
The assessment and monitoring of TACs occur on a regular basis with the support of UNDP mine action and IOM.
