The Government is taking speedy measures to develop and upgrade the hospitals in the North. Minister of Healthcare and Nutrition Nimal Siripala de Silva said the Kilinochchi Hospital will be developed to meet required facilities.
He said arrangements were already in place for this redevelopment of the Kilinochchi hospital.
The Hospital will be renovated and equipped with modern facilities. Dental equipment and infrastructure such as water and electricity will be provided. The Minister said one billion rupees has been allocated to fund the development of hospitals in Kilinochchi.
The Minister opined that funds were being provided to upgrade this Hospital. These will be utilized to renovate the quarters of doctors, nurses and family health officials as well. He stressed that this hospital will be uplifted to its former status.
Meanwhile, prompt measures have been taken to develop and upgrade the Jaffna Teaching Hospital. It will be improved at a cost of two billion rupees. The Japan International Corporation Agency will fund the project that is due to be completed before 2010.
