1. SINCE THE BEGINNING OF MAY HEAVY RAINS AND STRONG WINDS HAVE HIT THE COUNTRY CAUSING EXTENSIVE FLOODING AS WELL AS LANDSLIDES IN THE WESTERN, NORTH WESTERN, SABRAGAMUWA AND SOUTHERN PROVINCES.

2. SO FAR ONE DEATH AND A SMALL NUMBER OF INJURED HAVE BEEN REPORTED, WHILE OVER 10,000 FAMILIES ARE REPORTED TO BE DISPLACED.

3. ROAD TRAFFIC, ELECTRICAL SUPPLY AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS HAVE BEEN INTERRUPTED IN SOME AREAS.

4. AT THE MOMENT, GOVT. IS NOT PLANNING TO LAUNCH AN INTERNATIONAL APPEAL.

5. THE UNDP/DHA RESIDENT REPRESENTATIVE IS MONITORING THE SITUATION TOGETHER WITH THE GOVT. AND THE UN AGENCIES.
