Sri Lanka: China gives Rs.128mn worth tents to IDPs

The Chinese government donated 2,000 tents to the Internally Displaced Persons at the welfare villages in Northern Sri Lanka.

Chairman of the Uthuru Wasanthaya Task Force and Senior Presidential Advisor MP Basil Rajapaksa accepted the gift valued at 128 million rupees, yesterday (Dec.23), at the Presidential secretariat.

MP Rajapaksa thanked the Vice Governor, Sichuan Province Zhang Zuoha and the people of China for providing this special donation which would be useful for the resettlement of IDPs.

The Chinese government and the people of China had helped Sri Lanka in numerous ways at different times, especially by providing machinery and assisting in reconstruction activities in the Northern Province, he added.

The Chinese official said the government has already shown its ability to turn the country into a prosperous land under the strong leadership of the President who has defeated terrorism.
