Sri Lanka: Army releases 54 acres of land to owners

Sri Lanka Army released 54 acres of land along the coastal belt in Thaididi Grama Niladari Division, including the Myladi Fisheries Harbour that borders Palaly Army Cantonment to their legitimate owners today (3rd July 2017), States army media.

Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) released the 54 acres of land responding to the concerns of public and politicians in Jaffna District. Accordingly, 187 families who were resident as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) can return to their original lands to resume their fishing livelihood after absence of nearly 30 years.

The ceremony was organized jointly by Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation; Ministry of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, District Secretariat Jaffna and SFHQ-J.

Lands were released after successful consultation from the Ministry of Defence, tri-service Commanders, relevant Ministries and District Secretariat Jaffna.

Parliamentarians, District Secretary for Jaffna, Commander SF-J, state officials, army personnel and land recipients were present at the occasion.
