Shelter For Life International (SFL), a humanitarian relief and development organization, has been helping to rebuild communities and restore the lives of people affected by civil conflict in Sri Lanka since 1999. With 25 years of experience in providing shelter for families around the world displaced by conflict or natural disaster, SFL has a long-term commitment to offer safe, functional and appropriate shelter and assistance for those left homeless in Sri Lanka.
SFL staff in Sri Lanka acted immediately to the crisis caused by the devastating tsunami, by providing emergency relief supplies to victims and carrying out assessments.
In response to the present crisis, SFL is targeting to assist 10, 000 families, some 50,000 people, whose homes were destroyed by the tsunami with water, sanitation and temporary shelter. These families will also be provided with emergency supply kits that include critical supplies for water storage, hygiene, cooking and other basic living requirements. The current target area is a stretch of 50 km coastal line, south of the capital Colombo.
In the rehabilitation phase, SFL will dedicate its efforts to providing people with permanent housing, water, sanitation, and other infrastructure needs.
Donations for SFL's relief and reconstruction interventions in Sri Lanka can be made online at www.shelter.org, by calling our toll-free number, 1-888-426-7979, or by mailing checks to Shelter For Life headquarters.
