Our hearts are extended to the people of Sri Lanka as it mobilizes relief and recovery assistance to those hardest hit by Cyclone Roanu, its worst floods in 25 years.
We know the Sri Lankan communities can be very strong in the face of such devastation and while there is great sadness and uncertainty associated with such destruction, there is the underlying hope of recovery.
As their closest neighbor and enduring partner in the humanitarian aid work, Maldivian Red Crescent stand in solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka and will be honored to support the relief and recovery works by facilitating anyone and everyone who wants to contribute monetarily to the 3.6 million Swiss Franc (USD 3.65 million) appeal launched by International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies on behalf of Sri Lanka Red Cross Society.
In the next 25 days, our volunteers and staff across the country will continue facilitating and guiding anyone who needs assistance in donating the money to Sri Lanka Red Cross Society through their online donation mechanism. We encourage all around the globe to donate online and help the people of Sri Lanka. This link will direct you to the online donation platform for Sri Lanka Red Cross Society.
We will continue to work with our partners to alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found. In the meantime let us remind ourselves the importance of understanding the effects of climate change on our families, communities and environment. Let us be more prepared, to be resilient for the inevitable effects of climate change and natural disasters.
