KEY MESSAGES

• As reported by KIs and FGD participants, heavy rains with floods, droughts and human-elephant conflict (HEC), were the main hazards impacting the communities.

• Damage or loss of crops, and damage to agricultural and fishing equipments as well as infrastructure, are the main factors of livelihood activity reduction according to KIs and FGD participants. These impacts reportedly caused loss of income and investment, and financial challenges.

• As reported by KIs and FGD participants, limited access to farming lands and water contributed to experienced vulnerability. Low awareness and technical knowledge on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and livelihood resilience measures reporyedly also aggravated vulnerability.

• The priority mitigation activity recommended by respondents for floods included improving and maintaining drainage systems. While for droughts, constructing accessible drinking water facilities was suggested by respondents. To address HEC, the construction of elephant fences was recommended as a priority.
