Joint Humanitarian and Early Recovery Update August 2011 - Report #35

I. SITUATION OVERVIEW & HIGHLIGHTS

 By end August 2011, the total population returned to the Northern Province stood at 381,525 people (111,915 families) – this figure includes 213,041 people (66,682 families) displaced after April 2008 and 168,484 persons (47,104 families) displaced before April 20081.

 At the end of August, 7,509 IDPs (2,296 families) displaced after April 2008 remained in camps awaiting return to their areas of origin. An additional 8,262 IDPs (2,328 families) from the protracted or long-term caseload (displaced prior to April 2008) remained in welfare centres.

 Long-lasting solutions are also sought by a total 106,492 IDPs living with host families: 57,480 persons (20,122 families) displaced after April 2008, in addition to 49,012 long-term IDPs (14,336 families).

 A total 1,315 IDPs (362 families) remained stranded in transit situations in the 5 Districts in North.
