The government has made arrangements to implement a housing programme for the displaced persons in the North. This programme is being jointly implemented by the Ministries of Resettlement and the construction, Engineering Services, Housing, and Common Amenities.
Under this programme, the National Housing Development Authority extends a loan of 200 thousand rupees to every house recipient. The programme is to be implemented in every district in the North and will commence from the Mullathivu and Kilinochchi districts.
The District Secretaries in these two districts will engage in the process of selecting house recipients and identifying suitable plots of lands for housing construction within the next two weeks. This programme will be a part of the national Jana Sevena scheme.
The government further says that Jana Sevena housing projects are to be set up in the Jaffna, Mannar and Vavuniya districts, based on the success of the programmes carried out in the Mullathivu and Kilinochchi districts.(niz)
