Govt doubles allocations for people affected by natural disasters

The government has increased the allocations for the people displaced by natural disasters. The allowance paid for a displaced person has been doubled with effect from yesterday. Earlier they were paid Rs. 100 per day and it was increased to Rs. 200, Minister of Disaster Management Mahinda Amaraweera said.

With the heavy thunder showers in the past few days, Ratnapura district has faced a flood situation.

National Disaster Management Center announced that 21,754 persons were affected by floods. Four deaths have been reported and 32 houses have been completely destroyed whilst 227 houses have been partially damaged.
