In a ceremony held on the 27th of February, Acting Ambassador KATSUKI Kotaro handed over 40,000 metric tons of diesel, essential for powering generators in hospital facilities and for the transportation of patients, medication, and medical supplies.
The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Hon. Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, Minister of Health and Dr. P. G. Maheepala, Secretary, Ministry of Health, underscoring the deep bonds between our two nations and our collective commitment to bolstering healthcare infrastructure in Sri Lanka.
In response to Sri Lanka's power crisis, the Japanese Government pledged 5 billion yen in grant aid for procuring diesel for healthcare services last February, and today marked the first day that the procured diesel was used in emergency vehicles. Preceding today’s ceremony, Ambassador MIZUKOSHI along with Sri Lanka's Health and Port Ministers welcomed the arrival of the fuel on 19th February.
In his address, Acting Ambassador KATSUKI stated, “Looking ahead, it's important to recognize that this fuel will be distributed throughout Sri Lanka, benefiting communities far and wide. We anticipate that this support will significantly bolster Sri Lanka's healthcare infrastructure, ultimately enhancing the well-being of its citizens.”
The arrival of this fuel not only symbolizes a tangible contribution but also signifies hope and progress. It enables refueling of ambulances and facilitates the smooth operation of healthcare facilities across the nation. This is a development we warmly welcome and celebrate together.
