-- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a grant of 2 million
US dollars to help restore electricity and water supplies in post-tsunami
Sri Lanka, the bank said here on Monday.
The ADB funded project will help poor
households in Sri Lanka that cannot afford utility connections for their
houses after rebuilding and repair work has finished, according to a report
from the bank.
Non-government organizations will help identify and assist the beneficiaries in applying for the grants, as well as to monitor the supply of connections.
The ADB has earlier approved 150 million US dollars' grant and a 7 million loan for the tsunami-affected areas in Sri Lanka, which will help restore basic social infrastructure, community and public services, and livelihoods in these areas.
