Since 1 July, several wildfires have been burning in the south-eastern province of Lleida, Autonomous Community of Catalonia, in north-eastern Spain, causing casualties and damage.
According to the European Forest Fire Information System (JRC EFFIS) the most widespread wildfire, in Torrefeta i Florejacs municipality, has burnt an area of approximately 5,577 ha and has been under control since the night of 2 July.
As of 3 July, according to media, the Torrefeta i Florejacs wildfire caused two fatalities, and affected at least 14,000 people across Torrefeta i Florejacs, Vilanova de l'Aguda, Calabona, Olliola and Agramunt municipalities. In addition, the train service was suspended in the area.
National authorities have deployed 130 firefighters, six aircraft and 35 vehicles.
Over the next 48 hours, according to the European Forest Fire Information System (JRC EFFIS), the fire danger forecast is expected to be from high to very extreme in the affected area.
