Highlights
❖ Between October and December 2024, UNMISS Human Rights Division (HRD) documented 233 incidents of violence affecting at least 866 civilians: 352 killed, 350 injured, 129 abducted, and 35 subjected to sexual violence.
❖ Compared to the same period in 2023, this represents a four percent increase in the number of incidents (from 223 to 233), whereas the total number of victims increased marginally by less than one percent (from 862 to 866).
❖ In comparison with the previous quarter (July to September 2024) there was an increase of 13 percent in violent incidents (from 206 to 233), and a nine percent increase in the number of victims (from 792 to 866).
❖ Sub-national violence involving community-based militias and/or civil defense groups accounted for 77 percent of the total number of victims (or 668 individuals), while the conventional parties to the conflict and other armed groups were accountable for 18 percent of the victims (or 152 individuals).
