Highlights
• The social mobilization and mass screening exercise has been on-going for three weeks in Northern Bahr el Ghazal, a high burden state. A total of 22,022 children under five have been screened of which 8.1 per cent had moderate acute malnutrition and 3.7 per cent had severe acute malnutrition. These children were referred for treatment. The social mobilizers also noted that most households visited have already exhausted their food stocks quite early in the year.
• UNICEF and WASH Cluster partners continue to provide safe water at an average of 14 to 25 litres per person per day in locations with high concentration of IDPs in Malakal, Bentiu, Mingkaman, Bor and Juba. Latrine coverage has improved significantly in these high concentration IDP locations and currently the latrine ratio in all sites ranges from 1:20 to 1:43, indicating that these are now within global Sphere standards (1:50).
• In response to the circulating vaccine derived polio virus outbreak confirmed in October 2014, short interval additional dose campaigns have reached 400,026 children with polio vaccination in conflict-affected states to date.
• The total number of reported new admissions to the therapeutic feeding programme for the management of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in 2014 stands at 89,999 children aged 0-59 months (partner reporting for December not yet complete) with 76.9 per cent discharged as cured against the recommended SPHERE standard of 75 per cent.
