Highlights
The living situation for families displaced to Bentiu Protection of Civilian (PoC) sites (pictured above) continues to deteriorate due to heavy rains and flooding. The conditions have slowed many humanitarian efforts in the sites. Progress in draining the site remains slow as the PoC is situated on low, flat land.
UNICEF, WFP and NGO partners have now undertaken 20 rapid response missions to hard to reach areas of conflict affected states. These missions have reached almost half a million people, including over 95,000 children under 5 with essential services including nutrition, health, WASH, protection and education. Two teams are currently in the field, in Nassir Country (Upper Nile) and Canal (Jonglei). Two more missions are expected to start this week in Unity state.
During the reporting period, 5,898 children were screened (MUAC) by partners across the country bringing the total number of children screened from January to date to 638,618. Of these children, 42,614 (6.7 per cent) were identified as suffering from severe acute malnutrition and 80,280 (12.6 per cent) from moderate acute malnutrition. The total number of reported new admissions to the therapeutic feeding programme stands at 42,647 children 6-59 months, out of which 2,311 (5.4 per cent) were admitted to Stabilization Centres with complications.
