  • As of 20 November 2024, 550 suspected cholera cases were reported. The highest caseloads were reported in Malakal (335 suspected cases), followed by Renk (166 suspected cases), Juba (41 suspected cases), and Aweil West (8 suspected cases). 3 deaths were reported in Malakal and 2 deaths each were reported in Renk, Aweil West and Juba.
  • National, state, and county level cholera task forces have been established to strengthen coordination of cholera response and preparedness efforts. UNICEF plays an active role in existing task forces.
  • While efforts are underway to scale up, major gaps exist in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE), and Health activities, mostly due to the lack of dedicated funding for cholera response.

RESPONSE HIGHLIGHTS

44,683 individuals were supplied with clean and potable water at an average of 20.8 l/p/d from Renk Water Treatment plant and SWAT systems in Renk county, Upper Nile state.

11 healthcare facilities fitted with oral rehydration points (ORPs) through UNICEF’s implementing partner, World Vision International, in Renk, Upper Nile state.

26 radio stations across the country broadcast cholera prevention messages in English and Arabic daily.

104 hygiene promoters in Juba, Central Equatoria state trained by UNICEF, who have been mobilized from partner organizations.
