Stand with the People of South Sudan and Invest in their Future
Juba, 17 April 2015: “Peace and security are central requirements for South Sudan and its people to prosper; while these conditions are not yet in place in the world’s youngest country we must continue to invest in the long-term development of the nation and its citizens.
Even in the absence of peace it makes sense to invest in the people by carrying out development programmes in key sectors such as agriculture, education and health in order to support the country to be food secure, provide every child the opportunity to complete their education and help every citizen to access health care. Such medium and long-term investments complement the ongoing short-term response to the humanitarian consequences of crisis. Indeed, such a link can support the generation of well-nourished, educated and healthy citizens who can build a better future.
UN agencies continue to implement development programmes serving all citizens in all ten states of South Sudan as outlined in the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF), thanks to the engagement of the international donor community.”
