South Sudan - Tobariguna Payam, Ezo County and Source Yubu Payam, Tambura County, Western Equatoria State: Inter-Agency Assessment Mission - 8 October 2021

As a result of conflict that have been ongoing since in Tambura County since June 2021, influxes of IDPs have been reported across further Payams of Tambura and Ezo Counties. According to reports from local authorities and IDPs to OCHA, some of the IDPs populations have been for over three months with no support from humanitarian organizations. Essential supplies within existing services have been depleted and IDPs have been largely supported by already strained host communities, whose capacities have also been exhausted.
Close to whole population of Tambura county have been displaced in across Western Equatoria, Western Bahr El Ghazel, and Northern Bahr El Ghazel States and some crossed the border into Central African Republic (CAR). Many of the most vulnerable, including elderly and persons with disabilities, have been unable to flee, and remaining in or close to Tambura Town.
Following a request by RRC State Chairperson to OCHA dated 29/09/2021, OCHA organized an inter-agency mission to Source Yubu of Tambura County and Bariguna Payam of Ezo county which has an estimated total number of over 8846 people (1769 Households) displaced by the conflict in Tambura. Since June 17th, 2021, IDPs have been fleeing the violence, arriving intoMboko Boma, where they took refuge in the catholic Church and others who have continued to Source Yubu, and Ezo Payams and beyond. The follow humanitarian consequences were identified.

• Estimated number of affected HH is 1769 approximately 8846 persons.

• The violence resulted in burning, looting and destruction of civilian and humanitarian infrastructure, with several villages reported completed burnt. There are significant numbers of reports and eye witness accounts of killing of civilians brutally to force displaced and cause terror.

• Those who could, fled Tambura in 4 waves during surges in conflict, fearing for their lives and left without homes after 97% of villages were reportedly burnt down. IDPs who have fled for their safety, left with no possessions and are highly traumatized by the events that have taken place. .

• The affected populations were forced to flee into the IDPs Camps and informal settlements in Nboko, Source Yubu, whilst others able to travel continued to Bariguna, Bambaranze and Baribande in Ezo County.

• Some IDPs have integrated into host communities, with the majority at IDPs sites in Mboko, Source Yubu Payam.
Furthermost IDPS from Balanda tribe are living in SSPDF Barracks for protection • The IDPs who arrived in Mboko Boma, were welcomed by the Catholic Church and Host community who were able to provide some small support, including allocation of land, groundnuts and some small utensils, which are insufficient.
IDPs have no any other coping mechanism in the area.

• Assessment noted gaps in Health, Nutrition, Food Aid, WASH, Protection/GBV/child Protection, NFI and education services in the areas assessed.

• The situation is likely to elevate humanitarian issues, including but not limited to, of GBV, child neglect, malnourishment and exposure to disease (especially pneumonia and malaria).
