Background
South Sudan faces a prolonged humanitarian crisis driven by conflict, floods, and disease. The Sudan conflict has caused crossborder displacement, while flooding isolates communities. The Greater Upper Nile crisis, cholera outbreak, hyperinflation, intercommunal violence, and rising food insecurity overwhelm aid efforts. The WFP-led Logistics Cluster is essential for sustaining relief. It coordinates logistics, shares information, maps routes, and manages supply chains. As Provider of Last Resort, it offers transport, warehousing, and cargo consolidation to ensure aid reaches hard-to-access areas.
Operational Highlights
• Between January and December 2025, the Logistics Cluster facilitated the movement of 4,610 mt of life-saving, multi-sectoral humanitarian cargo through common logistics services, including air, river, and road transport. Over the year, the Cluster supported 127 organizations and reached 90 hard-to-reach locations nationwide.
• Air Transport: A total of 1,052 mt (34% of all multisectoral relief items) was airlifted to priority locations in support of the Greater Upper Nile response, cholera response, and flood affected areas
• River Transport: 1,946 mt (63% of multisectoral cargo) was delivered to various destinations via river transport using WFP’s On‑Demand Services (ODS) under the 50% cost‑share modality, enabling regular access to isolated riverine locations.
• Road convoy: The Cluster coordinated 18 road convoys, comprising 74 trucks transporting approximately 1,504 mt of relief supplies to operational areas.
