Situation overview

Nhialdiu is a Payam under Rubkona County located South East of Bentiu town with a population of 3,262HHS,15,036 individuals (IOM DTM2019) and 2,229 HHs 6,156 individuals registered for food distribution (IOM DTM April 2021) the Payam has been receiving spontaneous refugee returnees from Khartoum and other neighboring countries since 2019, and most of them have not yet been registered for ration cards.

Nhialdiu has experienced excessive rainfall in the mid of July and the beginning of August leading to floods, loss of properties and displacement. The flood has affected several villages including Chuor, Bipor,
Wanglok, Chot Joak, Chanlual, Nhialdiu/Tongadol, Kur, Chotchare, Keach, Tuarkiel, Chiobarrow.
According to RRC over 7,000 people are displaced and currently sheltering in schools, hospital and government offices, some of the displaced population are dispersed to different locations/Villages within Rubkona county namely: Ngop, Pakur, Thaaker, Chotjaak, Tochloka,Koung, Wiah, Dhorbour, Nhitang,
Bentiu Town and Rubkona town.

According to local authorities, affected population and team observation shelters are submerged and crops have been destroyed as a result of floods. Similarly, thousands of herds of cattle have been expatriated to Bentiu, Rubkona and Dhorbour. As a result of flood and heavy downpour many are left without food, clean drinking water and shelters. The health workers stated that, cases of Malaria and diarrhea are on rise, with only one primary health care center operational in Nhialdiu. As well cases of snake bites with no antivenom at the facility were reported.
Since the onset of floods humanitarian actors in Nhialdiu have been responding to the needs of the affected population but due to limited resources and the increase of floods due to the heavy rains, the situation is still worsening.
