The Greater Leer County wasamongst the worstaffected counties in Southern Unity since 2020,when the overflows of water-logged the entire southern Unity.

According to the local authority, RRC/Ross, county commissioner and the partners on the ground, the sixteen[16] payams of Leer county had been affected by the ongoing flood displacement amid of August 2021.

Based on the government assessment report, a total of 7,842 households of comprised 47,052 individuals were affected in 162 villages within the16 payams, in which contradicted with partners assessment testified 6,944 households of 41,664 individuals had been affected in 9 payams assessed by humanitarians.

The general security and safety of the IDPs in Leer currently seems to be relatively calms and there is no major threat to the IDPs settlement, since the water level had gone beyond and challenged individuals who may opted to crimes activities.

The IDPs from Kai-gai and Leer town were displaced from various locations such Nyandier, Payak,
Giel, Makuach, Tetber, Rub-chay, Panyijiar and Mayiandit southern and currently occupied school in Payak and Catholic churches ’accommodations which overcrowded, and majority had been integrated in the community in Leer and TPA by relatives. -
The Mayiandit southern IDPs had occupied the former airstrip and Pomdhor,while IDPs from Payak and nearby locations had put-up their Rakubas/shelters along roadside near airstrip and some occupied the school.

The Wash and sanitation deteriorating, whereby open defections and poor hygiene noted from the physical appearance of the IDPs’ children put them at risk of contracting airborne diseases.

Most of the IDPs reported that, their shelters were destroyed since 2020 and again this year they had been displaced further where they settle last year. Some were returnees from Panyijiar, IDPs protection site and refuges returnees from Sudan before they settle, they encountered the floods displacement. The IDPs were mostly children, women, elderly, and few men, the other IDPs were reported cohesively in the highlands such as Padeah, Bow, Dindin, Naak, Pilieny and Thonyor.
